IT was a tale of three cities when Giles Bendell and Madeleine Leckerman were married last Sunday.

The couple, who both attended Calderwood Lodge Nursery and Primary School and then Hutchesons' Grammar School, were living in London when their romance began.

They married at the Marriott Highcliff Hotel in Bournemouth, where Madeleine's parents Andrea and Arnold Leckerman moved to from Glasgow three years ago.

Giles, son of Louise and Adrian Bendell, is a surveyor and an associate with the Situs Companies and Madeleine teaches in North West Jewish Day School in London.

The service was conducted by fellow Glaswegian Rabbi Adrian Jesner, assisted by Madeleine's uncle Eddie Binnie, who has recently become acting cantor of Garnethill Synagogue.

Helping the couple celebrate their simcha, were Madeleine's brothers Nicholas and Lloyd and Giles' brothers Ashley and Bradley, together with family and friends.

Giles and Madeleine have made their home in London.

Wall for one and one for Wall...

FAMILY from the United Kingdom and Israel united to celebrate Ben Ruhan's batmitzvah at the Western Wall last month.

And the traditional Israeli-style celebration continued at the Rafael Synagogue in Petach Tikva.

Ben, the son of Eleanor and Chaim Ruhan of Alwoodley, is a pupil at Manchester's King David High School.

Grandparents Alan and Frances Alster, of Roundhay, and Rita Ruhan, of Israel, were among guests at the barmitzvah weekend that concluded with a party bursting with Israeli 'sameach'.

Ben, whose 11-year-old brother Daniel begins King David in September, enjoys playing golf and following professional boxing.
