Frieze a jolly good fellow

BENJAMIN Frieze was barmitzvah at Etz Chaim Synagogue on Shabbat.

The son of Emma and Marshall Frieze, of Alwoodley, Benjamin is a pupil at King David High School, Manchester.

The Leeds United fan plays football for Leeds Maccabi, plays guitar and has just joined Moor Allerton Golf Club.

Grandparents Ida and Mel Frieze and Brian and Madeleine Franklin, cousins from Israel, Canada and Spain travailed to Leeds for the celebrations.

Benjamin has a sister, Amy, 10, who attends Brodetsky Primary School.


Bono surprise for barmitzvah boy Curtis

JUST 10 days after attending a U2 concert at Hampden Park, Curtis Bennett put on a performance of his own.

The huge U2 fan was barmitzvah at Giffnock and Newlands Synagogue and was also presented with the band's new album, New Line On The Horizion, which was signed by lead singer Bono.

Hutchesons' Grammar School pupil Curtis, the son of Lorraine and Richard Bennett, of Newton Mearns, also enjoys golf, badminton and football and is a Glasgow Celtic fan.

His sister, Leoni, 16, joined in the celebrations, as did grandparents, Phoebe and Norman Bennett and Alan and Linda Minster, as well as guests from America and Australia.


Couple met in Jerusalem

SOPHIE Goodman and Alex Lopez-Dias were married at Prestwich Hebrew Congregation - a year after meeting in Jerusalem.

Sophie is the daughter of Anthony Goodman, of Hale, and Lorraine Isaacs, of Whitefield, while Alex is the son of Debra Dias, of Epping, Essex, and Kevin Dias, of Edgware, London.

The pair were married by Sha'are Hayim Sephardi Congregation's Rabbi Shlomo Ellituv.

Joining in the celebrations were the bride's grandmother, Vera Goodman, and grandfather, Basil Davies, as well as the groom's grandparents, Brenda and Sam Dias and Pamela and Harold Levine.

After sheva berachot in Manchester and London, the couple will settle in Jerusalem.
