Sara finds love after setting up social group

LITTLE did Sara Saunders realise when helping to set up Leeds Jewish single social group LJS that she would be its first romantic result.

The group filled a gap in social interaction for single people and, at the time Sara, one of the group's four administrators, said: "We are not a dating agency, just a social group where single people can meet.

"If on the other hand, we have a shidduch then that would be an added bonus."

Through the group Sara met Simon Phillips, known for his work on ORT, Limmud and as chairman of Concord.

The couple, who have a strong interest in interfaith dialogue, were married earlier this month.

"We've known each other for five years, but, although there was a connection, never really took it seriously until getting to know each other better at one of LJS's events," Sara said.

They also work together as be-frienders and on Leeds Jewish Representative Council.

Sara and Simon married at the community centre, where there were reminders of her late aunt Sheila Saunders, former CEO of Leeds Jewish Welfare Board and Leeds Jewish Housing Association.

"We were surrounded by Sheila's memory - I cannot think of a more fitting place to be married," Sara added.
