BARBARA Maddocks of Tayside is trying to trace her family tree. She would like to hear from anyone who knew textile merchant Harris (Jack/Yankel) Levine (changed to Lynn), who was born in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, in 1908.

He married Felicie Annis and they lived in Headlands Drive, Prestwich. Harris had three sisters - Ada, Yetta and Bella - and a brother, Abe.

Ada was born in Latvia in 1903 and married Sam Shapiro. Their daughter, Cherry, lives in London). Bella married a Mr Harris.

Harris also had a relative, Eric Lynn, who lived off Hilton Lane, Prestwich. Eric was married to Anne and had a son, Bryan.

''I last saw Bryan at my mother's funeral at Agecroft Cemetery in 1999,'' Barbara says.

FRAN Radel of America is trying to find information on her two English grandmothers.

Jennie Steer was born between 1892 and 1894. She emigrated to America in 1896. Her naturalisation papers list her place of birth as Leeds.

Minnie Benjamin was born on June 14, 1886, possibly in London. Her parents were David (Davis) Benjamin and Fanny Benjamin (Neuman). The family moved to America in 1901.

LOIS Kaufman of Pinner is searching for descendants of Simon and Priscilla Altman, last known to be living in Lancaster at the turn of the 20th century. They had previously lived in Leeds and Manchester. Their children were Rebecca, Joseph, Isadore, Harry, Rena, Miriam, Florence, Lilian and Ruth.

Lois is also searching for descendants of Solomon and Kate Levy, last known to be living in Elizabeth Street, North Manchester at the turn of the 20th century. Their children were Harry, Fanny, Saul Frederick, Jacob, Berth and Leah.

DAVID Pearlstein of Nevada is trying to find where his grandfather Abraham Levenson is buried. Abraham died in Leeds on September 10, 1918 at 21 Browns Square and David assumes he is buried somewhere in Leeds.

BOB Crowther of New Zealand is looking for his sister Elizabeth Christina who married Robert Elias in the mid-1960s.
