MARIA Dean of Gosport has been searching fruitlessly for information on her mother’s family.

‘‘I am told that their family name was Olinitsky,’’ Maria writes. ‘‘There were two brothers Hymie (died 1999) and Moshe (died 1998) and two sisters Sophia (Simmy) and Jane (died 1956).’’

Jane, whose married name was Croft, was Maria’s grandmother.

Sophia, Hymie and Moshe lived in Salford.

HELENE Marks Mas Perigouze of France is seeking the family of Leah and Philip Brosgall who settled in Leeds from Russia around 1900. The last known address Helene has is 14 Templar Street, Leeds.

Leah died aged 83 in l947 while Philip died in 1933, aged 75. They are buried in the United Hebrew Congregation Cemetery at Gildersome.

They had 15 or l6 children, the last of whom was Morris David Brosgall, who was born on September 19, 1901. Morris — Helene’s father — became known as David Garth.

IAN Bersten of Australia is descended from Henry Samuel Bloom who fought in the 93rd Sutherland Regiment at Alma, Balaclava and Sebastopol.

Ian believes Henry lived in Glasgow with a brother Abraham and a sister.

Henry was born in 1829 in Seradz which is south west of Warsaw and arrived in Australia in 1857.

Ian is looking for proof that Henry spent time in Scotland before moving to Australia and he would like to know if any relatives are still in Britain.

HELEN Meadows of Mansfield is trying to trace living relatives of her great-great grandfather WIlliam Lewin who died on August 30, 1868 of typhoid.

William, who was 32 when he died, lived at 50 Bennett Street, Manchester. He was married to Sarah Anthony and they had a son Henry, born March 17, 1867, when he lived at 20 Marshall Street, Manchester. Helen believes William was a van man or driver.

GERALD Phillips of Hale Barns is seeking information on his late grandfather Pinkus Scaratski (Sheratsky/Sharaskie), originally from Poland/Russia, who married Amarlia Stone in Manchester in 1886.

The couple moved to Leeds in 1888, living in Trafalgar Street and then Bell Street in 1890. They possibly lived with Philip or Reuben Pozansky. In 1891 they returned to Manchester until Pinkus — a member of IND Order Bnai Brith — died in 1913.

RON Lieberman of Australia is trying to find any living relatives of his grandparents Rudolph and Milly (Abrahams) Lieberman who emigrated from Poland to Sheffield.

They lived at 29 Jobson Road where they had three children, Albert, Hetty and Harry, between 1890 and 1902.The family then moved to London.
