Red-head Louis found asleep in shul

DENISE STALLMAN, of Salford, is looking for descendants of her great-great-grandfather Louis (Leib) Rabinowitz.

In the 1911 UK Census, he is shown as living with his daughter Bella Chernick, her husband Zelig and family at 34 Exchange Street, Cheetham, Manchester.

Denise thinks he also had a son David in New York, married to Jenny.

In 1911, Jenney and her five children stayed in Manchester in Berkeley Street, Strangeways from April to September.

Jenney had named the Chernicks as relatives they were visiting.

Their only source of income seems to have been 16-year-old Harry's earnings as an errand boy - possibly for the Chernicks, who had a shop selling milk and cheese and a milk delivery business.

According to Denise's aunt Lilly Aiken (nee Lazarus), Louis had red hair and a red beard and was often to be found in his local shul.

On one occasion he went missing, but was found asleep in the shul the following morning.
