NAOMI BARNETT of Australia managed to get in touch with a member of her husband Merv’s family in Leeds after placing a request in Roots Directory.

Unfortunately, the information she was sent was a Word Perfect document which she cannot open.

She would like the person who sent it to get in touch again.

Naomi is also trying to trace a book about Leeds by Gloria Benjamin, who now lives in Canada.

BENJAMIN Eisenstein of Illinois is searching for information about his cousin Bessie/Betty Aronsberg, who lived at 184 Elizabeth Street, Hightown, Manchester.

She had three brothers Morris, Hyman, and Jacob. Her mother may have been Leah Aronsberg.

Benjamin believes he is related to Bessie through the Meyerberg or Shapiro families who originally came from Sejny (Senii), Poland.

MARJO Janssen-Huijskens of Holland is trying to find World War Two veterans who stayed with her grandparents and mother in Louvain, Belgium.

Marjo’s grandfather George Delinte was chief officer of the fire brigade.

She believes that Battery Sergeant William Inch, of Liverpool, was Jewish.

Sgt Inch, who lived at 118 Tree Lane, Liverpool 10, wrote a poem for Marjo’s mother Jeanneke Delinte called ‘Memories Are Evergreen’ before the regiment left for Mol, Geldrop and Osnabruck.

OFER COHEN of Israel wants to find anyone who knew the Kagan family of Delyatichi, a small village near Nowogrudok.

Ofer’s grandfather was Yosl Kagan. Two brothers, Grushka and Jay Kagan, emigrated to South Africa between 1900 and 1905 and lived in Cape Town. One of them had a printing house and the other was a photographer.

NICK WEINGARD is trying to trace anyone called Aguilar; Lopez (or Lopes) Pereira; and Rodrigues Pereira for some American friends.

He would like information regarding these families going back to 1800.

‘‘My friends believe there was a Second Baron d’Aguilar, also known as Ephraim Lopes Pereira, to whom they are related to, who once lived in Islington, London — possibly in the middle of the nineteenth century,’’ Nick says.

He is visiting his friends later this month and would like to be able to pass on the information.

JOHN ROTHWELL, of Cheshire, wants information on Solomon Michaelovitch, who lived at 60 Stocks Street, Manchester in the 1920s.

Solomon was a cabinet maker who married Betsy Estry in 1922.

Archivist JOSEPH WOLFMAN wants to find the family of Israel Levy, who was a collector in Liverpool in the 1890s for the Norwood Hospital and Orphanage in London.

Joseph, archivist for the Merseyside Jewish Representative Council, has found details of an Israel Levy who was a member of Princes Road Synagogue and, according to the 1891 Census, was 31-years-old and had a sister Rachel, 19.

Israel married Annie Mogdon in 1892 at Princes Road when his profession was recorded as ‘turf clerk’. He died in 1931 and was buried in Liverpool’s Broadgreen Cemetery. Contact 29 Edale Road, Liverpool L18 5HR or telephone 0151-724 2933.
