Golda grounded Steve’s request for an interview at 30,000 feet

STEVE Levinson can still remember the smell of fresh newsprint as he waited outside his local corner shop to buy the football classified paper.

Sometimes printed on pink or green newspaper, it would contain the results of that afternoon’s games, with a small match report and updated league tables.

And, for lifelong Tottenham Hotspur supporter Steve, it helped inspire him on the path to a career in journalism.

He worked his way from local newspapers to working for BBC News and Channel 4 News — sandwiched between helping launch The Independent.
