Daniel uses parents' split for comedy show

ONE of the country's most endearing entertainers will perform for Rebecca Sieff WIZO.

Daniel Cainer, the golden boy of the 2006 Leeds Jewish International Performing Arts Festival, is all set to explore his Jewish identity through comic songs in a show called Jewish Chronicles.

The supper and cabaret at Sinai Synagogue on Sunday, January 25 will see singer-songwriter Daniel keeping broadly to the same format that was performed over two years ago.

The act has been updated with new material, including two new songs, written after a trip to Israel called The Road to Jerusalem and The Wrong Side of the Wall.

Daniel's parents are originally from Bradford but moved to Surbiton, Surrey, before he was born.

It was only after his parents' marriage collapsed in 1970 that Daniel settled in Leeds with his mother and nine-year-old twin Adam.

The story of his parents' rift is told in a witty piece called Surbiton Washerama in which Daniel spills the beans about his father's flirtatious fling - a weekly trip to the launderette while his son attended cheder.

Daniel, 48, helps his older brother Jonathan, the Daily Mail astrologer, run his international astrology empire, directing and recording audio broadcasts on phone lines and the web.
