PEOPLE braved the cold weather to attend the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities annual Chanucah event, in the Lochgilphead MS Therapy Centre, Argyll on Sunday.
Joining local families were travellers from Oban, Dumbarton and Glasgow.
SCoJeC public affairs officer Leah Granat led a discussion on the role of Jewish women today and on the situation of Jews in isolated communities in the current political climate.
An Israeli living in Scotland commented that she no longer felt safe as a Jew living here, whilst a young woman expressed fear at stating that she was Jewish because of the situation in Israel and the strong support for the Palestinians in Scotland.
There was agreement that the British media is very one-sided in its reporting, which helps increase the sense of vulnerability for Jews living here, particularly in small communities.
In terms of Jewish women today, it was thought that they still are not perceived as being equal within Orthodox Judaism.
