‘Relaxed’ Charlotte finds her purpose

CHARLOTTE Nathan has embraced the lockdown. The Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College Year 13 pupil has been focusing on herself, and has an unconditional offer to study law at Liverpool’s John Moore’s University.

It’s a stark contrast to what she told the Jewish Telegraph in week one of lockdown, when she stated that “I don’t have a purpose any more”.

Charlotte, of Cheshire, said, this week: “It’s a big weight off my shoulders. Regardless of what mark I’m given, because we can’t do exams, I have an unconditional offer to do what I want.

“I haven’t actually done much since lockdown. I’ve really enjoyed being in my own company and doing my own thing. I have literally been doing nothing.

“In all seriousness, I don’t know how I’m going to go back to socialising and the old normal, because I’ve got so used to my own company.”

But, for Charlotte’s friends, it’s not so simple. She admits that some of them have told her that they are struggling with the lack of social mobility.

She said: “The lack of socialising, normality and more — it’s hard for them. They are proper social butterflies, who are around other people 24/7. One of my friends told me that she would rather be sitting exams right now than sitting at home doing nothing.”

And Charlotte’s family are just as chilled as she is. She explained: “My brother and dad are taking this time to embrace it. It’s all about focusing on ourselves.

“It has brought me a lot closer to my grandma, as I sit in her garden, two metres away from her, and my dad does her shopping for her.”
